{"id":1159,"date":"2015-05-04T20:54:47","date_gmt":"2015-05-04T20:54:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jayraskinarchitect.com\/?p=1159"},"modified":"2015-09-26T19:23:40","modified_gmt":"2015-09-26T19:23:40","slug":"the-future-of-cars-and-cities-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jayraskinarchitect.com\/?p=1159","title":{"rendered":"The Future of Cars and Cities 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of years ago I wrote a blog about the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jayraskinarchitect.com\/?p=912\"> Future of Cars and Cities<\/a>\u00a0where I talked about the potential impact of driverless cars. \u00a0Development is speeding up, especially with the rise of Uber. \u00a0A recent article by Zack Kanter called <a href=\"http:\/\/sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com\/2015\/01\/27\/how-ubers-autonomous-cars-will-destroy-10-million-jobs-and-reshape-the-economy-by-2025-lyft-google-zack-kanter\/\">How Uber&#8217;s Autonomous Cars Will Destroy 10 million jobs and Reshape the Economy by 2025<\/a>\u00a0shows how far this might go. \u00a0He quotes Elon Musk of Tesla Motors that driverless cars will be available to the public by 2020. \u00a0Rather than being sold to individuals, the more likely market are companies like Uber and ZipCar. \u00a0He sees the transformation of not only the auto industry but public transport as well.<\/p>\n<p>The potential of loss of established jobs is sobering, even if it balanced by the increase in jobs in other areas as the money that once went into cars goes into other areas. \u00a0I remain fascinated by how this change could affect urban space.
