Now SOM has taken up the challenge with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.architectmagazine.com\/wood\/som-on-taking-timber-towers-from-tall-tales-to-reality.aspx?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_content=jump&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=ANW_061813&amp;day=2013-06-18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Timber Tower Research Project<\/a>,\u00a0 which debuts a prototypical tower with a\u00a0 concrete jointed timber frame system.\u00a0 It will be interesting to see framing carpenters working on tall buildings instead of steel workers. For the Pacific Northwest, it opens up a chapter of using our local wood resources for building 20-30 story buildings.\u00a0 So far no local takers on using this technology, as it appears that talks for using this new building technology are in Canada and Austria.
